Gertrude E. Shea – One of five children, she was born in
1906. Her father died when she was 10 years old, leaving her with a
strong will for survival and a strong Faith.
Married mother of one, grandmother of four and great grandmother of
twelve, she lived through life's happiness and heartache, always
staying productive, to the age of 92.
She created the
Formula
for her granddaughters, seeing the challenges they faced.
Remembering her own youth full of uncertainty and difficulties, she
wanted to give them a "course of action" that would prepare them and
help them to face life's challenges.
She believed that with work and prayer, anything was possible. She
used the analogy of a trolley car with four wheels to represent her
attitude towards life. The first wheel was Spiritual, the second
Intellectual, the third Financial and the fourth Physical.
"If all four wheels are
maintained, your trolley will roll along smoothly, but if even one
wheel is out of align, certain disaster."
-Gertrude E. Shea
